ABSTRACT
This study aims to explore the effects of abilities of logical thinking and spatial visualization in high school students' mathematics achievement and the process of problem solving. The main results are as follows.
First, the ability of logical thinking and mathematical achievement seems to have co-related. However, the ability of the spatial visualization and mathematics achievement were show to have the low co-relation.
Second, there was some different mathematics achievements in academic reports between the concrete operational stage and formal operational stage, and between the concrete operational stage and transitional operational stage. The different mathematical achievement in trial run K -SAT was shown between the concrete operational stage and formal operational stage, between the concrete operational stage and transitional operational stage, and between transitional operational stage and formal operational stage.
Third, four students with the same level of mathematical achievement in both academic report and in trial run of K-SAT are chosen. Those who have higher spatial visualization ability and lower logical thinking ability rather than those who have higher logical ability and lower spatial visualization ability tend to select visual strategies in the process of problem solving.
