교사의 ‘격려’ 언어의 유용성 : 초등학교 교실 수업에 대한 질적 접근

본 연구는 초등학교 교실 수업에서 교사들이 사용하는 언어 가운데 격려하는 언어의 유용성에 대해 논하고자 하였다. 구체적으로는 우선 ‘격려’ 언어의 의미를 찾아보고, 다음으로 교사의 ‘격려’ 언어 사용에 따른 아동들의 반응을 칭찬하는 언어의 사용에 따른 아동들의 반응과 비교함으로써 ‘격려’ 언어의 유용성을 입증하고자 하였다. 이러한 과정은 문헌연구와 서울의 초등학교 2개 학급 담임교사와 아동들을 대상으로 한 관찰과 면담에 의해 이루어졌다. 그 결과 초등학교 교실 수업에서 교사들이 사용하는 ‘격려’ 언어가 아동들의 동기 유발, 학업성취, 자존감 등에 영향을 미친다는 것을 발견하게 되었다. 특히 격려하는 언어는 아동들의 행동과정을 중요시 여기고, 그들의 자율적 활동을 강조하며, 모든 아동들에게 win-win 감정을 갖게 하는 언어형태임을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구는 초등학교 교실 수업에서 교사의 언어 사용에 세심한 주의가 필요함을 인식하는 데에 도움을 줄 것이며, 교사들에게 격려하는 언어를 제안하는 계기가 될 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to search of utility of teacher's encouragement language in elementary school classroom. For this purpose, inquired for significance of encouragement language through various theories and studies and examined for utility of teacher's encouragement language through observation and interview.

Many teachers are used of praise language for good behaviour. The praise language of teacher given self-confidence and motivation to student. But praise recognizes the actor. Encouragement language of teacher given good development to students. Because encouragement acknowledge the act. This language given self-confidence and motivation to students. Encouragement stimulates the effort and fastens attention upon one's capacity to join humanity, and also to become aware of interior strength and ability to cope. To offer this encouragement requires constant observation of the children's reaction. So, encouragement language of teacher is need to elementary classroom teaching context.
