ABSTRACT

In this study, the documentation interpreted and characterized within the framework of the principles and guidelines of the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education. The study was designed to answer central research questions exploring the documentation, the researcher focused on the rules of assessment through the documentation in children's classrooms ; why the documentation is being utilized to assess young children ; who should document children's progress and their products ; what contents should be included in documentation for assessing children's development ; when could be documented in the kindergarten ; how could be assembled the proofs of children's learning through the documentation ; and in where could be documented.

On the basis of theoretical review, it must be succeeded to develop more concrete tools for assessing young children by means of the documentation. Besides it should be offered young children's teachers and parents that experience for learning and training practices through the documentation.
