ABSTRACT

The purposes of this study are to analyze the external format and content structure of chemistry part in the empirical version of elementary school science textbooks developed under the 7th national curriculum and to compare with the textbooks under the 6th national curriculum. In the 7th curriculum, the size of textbook is bigger, the quality of paper is improved, and the number of pages are decreased. However , considering the book size, font size, and lesson quantities, the number of pages are actually increased.

At higher grades, the contents of units in the textbooks under the 7th curriculum are composed of those of specific subunits in the 6th curriculum. At lower grades, the contents of several subunits in the 6th curriculum are reconstructed in the 7th curriculum. In the new curriculum, 2/ 3 of the contents are consistent of those in the previous curriculum. The enriched and supplementary courses of curriculum differentiation is reflected in the revised textbooks.
