ABSTRACT

The major purpose of this study is to provide an evaluation plan which is designed for both aptitude- based speciality education and college admission for specialists. Aptitude- based speciality education has been implemented to develope each student' s speciality in primary and secondary schools. In addition, college admission for specialists has been implemented to select specialists and to develope their specialities in higher educational institutes.

The first part of this paper defines the meaning of specialist. Specially, it is emphasized that each student is a specialist in a certain area even though there is different levels of speciality. The second part describes how to classify specialities by sub- categories. Specially, it is emphasized that classification of specialities by subcategories should be easily understandable among teachers and students as well as parents for both aptitude- based speciality education and college admission for specialists. The third part describes how to measure the level of each student' s speciality. Specially, professional judgement by classroom teacher about for his/ her students' level of specialities is emphasized for aptitude- based speciality education in primary and secondary schools. The fourth part describes how to select specialists as a special college admission. It also analyzes the patterns of college admission for specialists with 107 higher educational institutes. Finally, some suggestions to improve both aptitude- based speciality education and college admission for specialists are discussed.

Nowadays, aptitude- based speciality education is becoming a popular educational program of classifying each student' s speciality as well as developing it. College admission for specialists is also becoming a popular form of selecting eligible applicants according to their specialities.

However, there are still some barriers to their implementation, such as lack of professional knowledge for both classifying and measuring specialities. In spite of these barriers, both aptitude- based speciality education and college admission for specialists should be successfully implemented in whole educational systems, because they are a quite critical matter for improving the quality of education in Korea.
